On average Australian’s gain 0.8 – 1.5kg over the Christmas holidays & this weight can be difficult to lose. Instead of asking Santa for a larger belt for this year’s Christmas pressie, try and adapt some helpful tips into your holiday season.

Christmas Weight Loss Tips – Our 3 key areas of focus include:

  1. Exercise
    • You can always ask for a gym membership as a Christmas present
    • Otherwise several simple no-cost daily exercises can help you minimise weight gain; taking your dog for a walk, playing with the kids in the backyard, utilise the hot weather to go swimming at a local pool. The sydney Bay Run is approximately 7-km and can be a scenic walk or run. Bondi to Tamarama walk is also a beautiful coastal walk that is even better with a swim at Bondi beach at the end 🙂
  2. Alcohol
    • Drinking a beer or two sounds about right, purely for the enjoyment aspect during festive events. However, over consumption of alcohol can lead to weight gain (According to the Department of Health and Ageing). So, your tips include:
      • Avoid topping up your glass, and instead finish your drink first before moving on to the next
      • Alternate your drinks from one alcoholic to one non-alcoholic drink
      • Drink low carb or low sugar drinks avoiding normla beer or champagne
      • Finally, prior to the event – know your limit 😊
  3. Food
    • No one is saying you shouldn’t eat specific foods to avoid weight gain, and why shouldn’t you be able to treat yourself, after all it is a festive season that comes around once a year. However, portion sizing is everything. So, your food tips are here:
      • Use an entrée plate instead of dinner plate. This way you are sure to eat less
      • Fill up your plate with the wholesome foundation foods like veggies, fruit and grain foods.
      • Don’t go into the festive season trying to lose weight, instead change your mind set to maintain your current weight
