Understanding Functional Assessments
At PROHEALTH PHYSIO & FITNESS, we understand the functional movement. Not only do we know how to help people recover from injuries we also specialise in helping prevent injuries within the workplace or in personal lives.
What is a Functional Assessment?
A Functional Assessment is an evaluation of an individual’s physical capacity to determine if they can safely perform the inherent requirements of a given job and it’s role responsibilities. The assessment also identifies previous medical history and potential risk factors that may predispose an individual to injury at work and provide strategies to mitigate this risk.
What is involved?
The Functional Assessment will be carried out at our clinic by one of our Physiotherapists or Accredited Exercise Physiologists. Your employee will complete a detailed medical questionnaire and undergo general medical screening to determine any risk factors to physical capacity testing.
The allied health professional will thoroughly evaluate:
- Musculoskeletal range of motion
- Special testing for significant musculoskeletal pathology
- Cardiovascular fitness testing and monitoring
- Muscle strength and endurance testing
- Grip strength testing
- Muscular and neural length tests
- Lifting capacity – floor to waist, waist to chest, overhead.
- Push/pull tolerance
- Reaching, squatting, balance and stability tests
- Sustained postural tolerance
Why should you implement?
By arranging a Functional Assessment for existing employees, you are reducing the likelihood of a person being injured whilst performing a duty at work due to pre-existing conditions.
