Whether you are training for your first race or you are a seasoned runner, you want your hard dedication from training to pay off on the big day. You work hard pounding the pavement, trying to increase the mileage of the legs but sometimes improvements in lap times or how you feel on the run can stop despite the fact you are still putting in the time.

Running Season Tips – If this has happened to you, there are a number of things that you can add into your training to help make you a well rounded runner.

1.        Make sure that you are attending to your body’s additional nutritional needs.

2.       Ensure that your body is getting adequate rest and recovery during your training week. This includes making sure you are getting quality sleep and scheduling rest days to optimise your body tissue repair.

3.       Utilise cross training for active rest days. This can assist recovery following an intense or long run.

4.       Supplement your running with a strength and conditioning program, ideally designed and tailored to your needs.

5.       Targeting your core stability and pelvic floor system can improve your running technique and efficiency. There are many exercises that can engage these muscles but finding the right ones most suited to yourself and ensuring that you are doing them correctly can be found with a thorough assessment conducted by a Physiotherapist.

If you feel that your training would benefit from a refreshed approach or a screening including an assessment of your running technique or core stability, please don’t hesitate to contact our enthusiastic physiotherapy team today.
