Understanding Dry Needling Therapy
At PROHEALTH PHYSIO & FITNESS, our Physiotherapists utilise Dry Needling Therapy (also known as Dry Needling or DNT) as an adjunct to your overall treatment and rehabilitation program. It is the use of acupuncture needles to penetrate muscle to reach a trigger point (tight band of muscle fibres), with the goal of removing the trigger point to restore normal muscle length and tension.
Dry Needling Therapy is useful to promote muscle relaxation via neural deregulation, stimulate tissue healing and blood flow to those deeper areas that hands cannot always get to.
Common conditions/injuries we use dry needling for include:
- Neck pain or tension headaches
- Lower back pain
- Muscular strains
- Plantar fasciitis
- Hip Bursitis and gluteal pain
- Tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow
