Accidents at Christmas Time – One of the main causes for these admissions is motor vehicle accidents. Current statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that the holiday season can be especially dangerous for motorists. This is mainly because the factors listed below become more prevalent:
Stress
- Emotions are often heightened during the holiday season, and the number of relatives is perceived as overwhelming.
Fatigue
- During the holiday season many people with the mixture of relatives, shopping and general celebration, affecting many people
Overcrowding of cars
- The increased traffic in the holiday season can also affect motorists, so it is important to be aware of the cars and motorists around and be extra cautious
Distractions
- Christmas lights on houses or too many people in the car can distract drivers and lead to accidents
Increased alcohol consumption
- Accident statistics during the holidays show that more than 40% of the fatalities during Christmas and New Year’s involved alcohol.
